Incontinence - A Hidden Disease

September is Continence Awareness month, and the Continence Association of South Africa (CASA), in conjunction with Dis-Chem Pharmacies, will be running a display campaign which will take place over one week, starting from Monday 12th and ending on Saturday 17th September 2005.

You may know it as the constant need to visit the toilet, or leaking when sneezing or coughing, or soiling or perhaps your child's bedwetting.

Medically, it is known as the involuntary loss of urine and/or bowel motion at an inappropriate time or in an inappropriate place. The amount can vary from slight to copious - but is always very embarrassing to the person involved. Because incontinence is not a disease, but a symptom of an underlying disorder - something can be done to treat it! This is where the Continence Association of South Africa (CASA) would like to improve the quality of life of people with incontinence.

From the 12th - 17th September, displays with leaflets will be available in all major Dischem pharmacies. The pharmacists and product specialists will also be available to give advice on treatment options and referral if necessary.

CASA has a help-line manned by a qualified nursing sister, who will assist anybody with queries on incontinence.
