Public Works stood its ground firmly at the Learning Cape Expo that was held at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) as well as various other rural venues around the Western Cape recently. Apart from marketing our image, the purpose of Public Work's contributions was mainly to attract young people to study and become qualified in technical and scarce-skills careers such as architecture, engineering and quantity surveying, which form the core structure of our line function.

According to the organisers of the main event at the CTICC, the Expo attracted learners from 150 schools. More than 30 000 people (not only learners) were counted at the entrances. Quantity surveyors, architects, property managers and engineers from Public Works worked around the clock in two-hour shifts to man the exhibition area and answer questions from eager young people. We also boasted a picture presentation of completed projects running continuously on a large plasma screen, with a very prominent banner in the background. Thousands of brochures and info packs had to be compiled for the event.
