    Domestic Help

Five recommendations in respect of minimum wages:

    • They vary from R 600 in urban areas to R 400 in rural areas.
    • We have set an hourly rate as well as a monthly rate. The reason for this is to encourage employers who cannot afford the minimum wages to decrease the number of hours that their domestic workers work.
    • We have said that the wage can be reduced by only up to 25% if accommodation of a reasonable standard is provided.
    • Wages should be increased by 7% each year in the second and third year of the sectoral determination.
