Cameron Dugmore
Cameron Muir Dugmore was sworn in as a Member of the Excecutive Council for Education (MEC), or Provincial Minister in April 2004, after having been a Member of the Provincial Legislature since 1994, having served the ANC in various capacities.

Mr Dugmore completed his BA LLB at the University of Cape Town in 1989, and it was during his student days that he became active in the anti-apartheid movement; he has been an active member of the ANC since its unbanning in 1990.

He has been a member of the Western Cape Provincial Executive Committee of the African National Congress until recently, but continues to play a leading role in the affairs of the organisation. Mr Dugmore continues to serve as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature since 1994.

He is married to Melanie, a lawyer and criminologist by profession. They have two daughters, Aleya and Jenna. He comes from a family of teachers. Both his mother and father; and one brother and sister are teachers. Since assuming Office, in the space of weeks, he has virtually covered every corner of the province.

The MEC has declared for himself six key priorities, which he wants WCED to focus on as it starts to implement the Human Capital Development Strategy - to meet the challenges of skills development.

These priorities are applicable for the rest of his term of office, namely: Literacy and Numeracy; Further Education and Training in schools and colleges; Infrastructure Provisioning; School Safety; Redesign of the WCED; and building Social Capital in Education.
