Enforcement of Environmental Regulations
DESCRIPTION:
Environmental regulations are set out in the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998. This Act requires that national and provincial departments exercising functions which may affect the environment must prepare an Environmental Implementation Plan (EIP) and must monitor and review their implementation of this plan on a regular basis

Environmental regulations are enforced by:

  • monitoring environmental management
  • investigating reported non-compliance with relevant environmental legislation
  • prosecuting and obtaining convictions for environmental transgressions ensuring compliance after directives or interdicts have been passed.
