Breast Cancer Screening
DESCRIPTION: |
Women are shown how to examine their breasts for lumps which may be cancerous. If a lump is detected, she will be referred for further investigation, which may include a mammogram, removal and testing of the lump to find out whether it is benign (not cancerous) or malignant (cancerous), counselling, and treatment if necessary. |
INSTRUCTIONS: |
Breast self-examination education is given at clinics. A referral is necessary to the outpatient clinics at regional and tertiary hospitals where comprehensive breast cancer services can be obtained. If you are a first-time visitor to a clinic or hospital you will be required to fill out a form and a client folder will be opened. Bring your ID book, your clinic/hospital card if previously registered at facility and the referral letter from the clinic if you have been referred to a breast cancer clinic at a hospital. |
