Western Cape Minister for Community Safety Leonard Ramatlakane has reacted with disappointment to acquittal of high-flyer gangster Mujahid Daniels at the Cape High court.

Daniels was facing 11 charges that include four of murder, five of attempted murder. He had been in custody for over two years pending the outcome of his trial.

Commenting on his acquittal at the Cape High court, Minister Ramatlakane said: "We are obviously disappointed that he has been acquitted, but this is a court ruling which we must respect."
"The Police and the general law enforcement agencies will continue to pursue criminals who violate our law in pursuance of self enriching interests."
"We will continue to use the recently passed and now piloted Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA), we believe police will continue to investigate against those who violate the provision of this POCA ACT."

Minister Ramatlakane has called on members of the public not to lose hope but to continue to foster that partnership with the South African Police and other law enforcement agencies in an effort to provide information that could lead to the arrest, prosecution and conviction of high-flyer criminals.
